Species studied most: the large pine weevil Hylobius abietis; the spruce bark beetles Ips typographus and Ips duplicatus; the ambrosia beetles Xylosandrus germanus and Trypodendron laeve; the longhorn beetles Tetropium castaneum and Tetropium fuscum; cone and seed insects of larch, spruce and fir.

Methods: field trials comparing pheromone and host-volatile attractants and trap types, survey networks for invasive alien forest insects, and saproxylic beetle sampling in Carpathian old-growth forests. About 85 publications since 1990, mostly on the Eastern Carpathians, Romania.

Trained in silviculture at Transilvania University of Brașov; formerly assistant professor of forest entomology at Ștefan cel Mare University of Suceava.
